Warwick Hall Fishing Rules 2009

Nick Marriner - Landlord 07768991379
Charlie Alderson - Gamekeeper 07769 816339

Letting begin at 4am and finish at 4am the following morning

Sharing or substitutions must be notified to the Gamekeeper, Charlie Alderson – 07769 816 339.

Commercial subletting is strictly forbidden.

Do not use the front drive to the house once you are familiar with the geography of the estate. The back drive from the lane is best for the river.

Speed limits matter!

The Fishermen’s Rod Room is on the north end of the house, beside the bicycle shed. You’ll find the fishing book and boat keys, as well as the loo. Please be careful to return the boat keys.

You’ll win favour with Charlie if you are as careful as he is about keeping the fishing huts and loo in clean and tidy condition. There’s a bin for rubbish.

The Good Sportsman fishes steadily down the beat – no ‘herons’ please!

All salmon and sea trout, including any fish returned to the river, absolutely must be entered in the fishing book!

Salmon and sea trout kelts, red fish, and foul-hooked fish should be released unharmed.

September 10th onwards: hen fish must be released unharmed to comply with Environment Agency regulations, as well as the estate's own rules.

No more than one fish per day may be killed by an angler. As per before, only cock fish may be killed after September 10th.

No bait fishing is allowed by the Environment Agency until 16th June. after which, the following restrictions apply:

  • Prawns are strictly forbidden
  • Shrimp may be used on Howard's Hole at any time. Elsewhere they can't be used until 4pm
  • Float fishing forbidden
  • Fishing with a worm after 1st September is limited to a single worm only - on a size 8 hook or smaller
  • Any coloured or red fish caught on a worm should be released by simply cutting the hook off and leaving it in the fish. This will do less damage than trying to remove the hook.
  • If the water is 2'6" or less at the gauge, fly only in the morning until 1pm in

  • House Pool
  • Crow Wood
  • Duffers
  • Jackies
  • unless a single tenant has taken all the water, in which case the rule is relaxed

Nick Marriner may fish himself after 5.30 pm if conditions permit.

As a rule, no dogs allowed on the river bank. Dogs staying in the house with their owners may accompany their owners to the river provided they are kept under close control.

Any tenants who do not observe these rules may be requested to stop fishing and leave the river.

    HEALTH AND SAFETY

Tenants are warned that wading can be dangerous. The estate accepts no responsibility for any accidents that occur whilst wading. Wading should not be undertaken when the water is very high. A wading stick should be used at all times whilst wading.

The use of boats in entirely at tenants' own risk. They are loaned as a favour. Inspect the boat carefully, and use if you think it suitable.

    GYRODACTYLUS SALARIS

The UK is the last country in Europe to be free of this terrible parasite which could wipe out all salmon and trout stocks.

All tenants who have fished overseas must disinfect their tackle before fishing at Warwick Hall (or elsewhere).
